Nach unserem sehr erfolgreichen DudL über LGBTIQ*-Rechte in Europa haben wir nun ein letztes DudL vor den Semesterferien für euch zum Thema „Demokratie in Gefahr. Rechtsextremismus und der Aufstieg der AfD“.
Ende Juni stand es fest: In Thüringen hat ab sofort ein AfD-Kandidat den Posten des Landrats inne und ist somit der erste „AfD-Landrat“, wie es die Zeitungen betiteln. Wenige Tage später gewinnt die Partei in Sachsen-Anhalt erstmals ein hauptamtliches Bürgermeisteramt. Im Nachgang wurde wieder einmal darüber diskutiert, welche Schlüsse man nun ziehen muss/sollte. „Ein Schockmoment für alle Demokratinnen und Demokraten“, nennt es beispielsweise Daniela Behrens (SPD), Innenministerin Niedersachsens. „Das war erst der Anfang“ (Tino Chrupalla auf Twitter) und „politisches Wetterleuchten“ (Björn Höcke) kommt es von der rechtsextremen AfD-Seite. Allgemein war das Presseecho sehr hoch: Manche warnen vor Panikmache, andere mahnen zur Vorsicht. Doch das AfD-Wähler:innen nicht lediglich „Wutbürger“ sind, die der Politik mit ihrer „Protestwahl“ einen Denkzettel verpassen wollen, sondern auch die Ansichten der rechtsextremistischen Partei teilen, sollte mittlerweile nichts Neues mehr sein.
Doch welches Gefahrenpotential geht nun von den momentanen Entwicklungen aus? Wird die rechtsextreme Partei ihren Platz als bundesweit zweitstärkste Partei halten? Was bedeutet das für unsere Demokratie und die demokratischen Parteien? Und was ist eigentlich mit der Brandmauer gegen Rechts? Diese und weitere Fragen möchten wir mit Euch besprechen. Einen kurzen Inputvortrag wird Rolf Frankenberger, Leiter des neuen Instituts für Rechtsextremismus, halten.

After our very successful DudL on LGBTIQ* rights in Europe, we now have a last DudL for you before the semester break on the topic „Democracy in danger. Right-wing extremism and the rise of the AfD“.
At the end of June, it was clear: In Thuringia, an AfD candidate now holds the position as Landrat (political district administrator) and is thus the first member of the AfD for such an official position. A few days later, the party also won a full-time mayor’s office in Saxony-Anhalt for the first time. In the aftermath, there was once again a discussion about what conclusions one must/should now draw. „A shock moment for all democrats,“ is what Daniela Behrens (SPD), Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony, called it. „That was just the beginning“ (Tino Chrupalla on Twitter) and „political weather lightning“ (Björn Höcke) come from the far-right AfD side. In general, the press echo was very high: some warn against scaremongering, others urge caution. But it should no longer be news that AfD voters are not just „angry citizens“ who want to teach politics a lesson with their „protest vote“, but also share the views of the extreme right-wing party.
But what potential danger does the current development pose? Will the extreme right-wing party maintain its position as the second strongest party nationwide? What does this mean for our democracy and the democratic parties? And what about the „Brandmauer gegen Rechts“? We would like to discuss these and other questions with you. Rolf Frankenberger, head of the new Institute for right-wing extremism, will give a short input lecture.
